Abdominal Therapy®

NIBIG Logo

Abdominal Therapy®, as developed and taught by Rosita Arvigo, is rooted in the traditional Maya Healing.

This therapy incorporates a blend of external, gentle massage techniques, focussing on the the abdomen, lower back, and sacrum.

Its core premise is to realign the internal organs - specifically the uterus and digestive tract - to optimize the body's five systems of flow: arterial blood, venous blood, lymph, nerve impulses, and life energy (chu'lel or chi).

This therapy helps to enhance the bodies natural healing capacity, supports digestive and pelvic health and wellness, and can be applied throughout every stage of a persons life.

These sessions offer whole-person care, working across your physical, emotional, energetic, and mental dimensions.

The Intake  (60 mins.)

Before a session takes place, there will be an extensive intake of 1 hour. You will be asked to fill out an intake form beforehand. During the intake we will look at your personal story, your intention and request for help, and we can discuss your medical background.

The intake might include some body-awareness practices. We may also cover some self-care routines for you to practice at home.
When we both feel that Abdominal Therapy could be of support to you, an appointment is made for the actual treatment.

The First Session (120 mins.)

The first session will include your first Abdominal Therapy Session.

At the end of  the session we will take some time for home care instructions or lifestyle recommendations to further improve your abdominal health.

An important part of the tradition & therapy is Your Abdominal Massage (YAM), a simple 10 minute self-care practice for you to use at home.

I will show you techniques to massage your own upper and lower belly. You will have a time to practice, so that you feel comfortable applying the techniques at home, empowering you with nurturing & effective skills to support your own healing.

My care is rooted in shared decision-making: You will always be an active voice in your treatment plan, and we will navigate your healing journey at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

The Intake for Integral Pelvic Therapy

A Second Session (90 mins.)

Your Second Session might include:
§ An evaluation of how your body responded to the first session.

§ A bodywork session of Abdominal Therapy, similar to your initial session but making any needed modifications.

§ A reviewing of Your Abdominal Massage (YAM), and its effects on your body. We will go over any questions you may have thus far. We may dedicate time to review the techniques if needed.

A Third or Subsequent Session (90 mins.)

Your Third Session is similar to the second session.

§ It includes an Abdominal Therapy part.

§ There is time to discuss of how your self practice of YAM is going. We may review it one more time. By the third review of this self-massage technique, you will typically notice a shift as the movement begins to feel natural and integrated.

§ We take a look at the shifts that have occurred for you and make a plan going forward.

How many sessions do I need? :

For some, three sessions along with continued YAM is all that is needed,  combined with some occasional maintenance sessions.

For others additional sessions may be needed, depending on symptoms & the request for help.

Embodied consent

Embodied consent

My work is trauma-informed and one of the main pillars is full embodied consent.

A safe container is created, through a continuous communication process between the client and practitioner. You are encouraged to feel and voice your intentions & boundaries. Any step within a session will only take place, if and when you feel a full "yes".

So many people recognise having undergone touch that wasn't 100% consensual.

By working with Embodied Consent, you can feel safe enough to rediscover the connection with your pelvis, whilst remaining fully in charge of your own process. And that is a very empowering experience.

You are your own authority and teacher.

Your body, abdomen and pelvis are incredibly wise.
They know.

Testimonials

" I cannot express how much emotional and physical healing comes with IPT and I would want for each of us to feel that sense of reintegration, vitality and sensual/sexual restoration. It is a different way to tap into awareness and into my body, wonderful and delicious.

As a woman who works with women on restoring menstrual balance and fertility,  I see how much this work helps: during pregnancy to free up the birth canal and postpartum to work with scars and the tensions that accumulate during childbirth and to support addressing several gyneacological conditions."
